As a business owner, one of your biggest challenges is managing your time well. Let’s see. You have a business to run (and you take on many hats such as CEO, admin person, or tech person). Plus you’re juggling time between your business and family. It’s not surprising that you often struggle with writing content for your blog. How do you squeeze in the time to write? And how do you come up with topics to write about?
If one of your resolutions has always been to create more content (articles, videos, infographics, podcast, and more), but it’s looking a little bit wobbly, there’s still hope. In this article, we’ll teach you how to plan a year’s worth of content so you don’t have to scratch your head or stare at the ceiling for hours and wonder what to talk about in your next article or video.
Here’s how to plan a year’s worth of content, step-by-step:
Determine your business goals for this year. Blogging, as a content marketing strategy, should be able to achieve a couple of your business goals. Do you want to get more email subscribers? Do you want to increase sales of your products? Write them down.

List broad topics that are relevant to your offering. The topics that you will need to include in your blog should be the topics that your potential clients need help with, and these should be relevant to your products and services. You can list all of your products and services, and beside each product or service, write the corresponding topics. For example, a blogging guru who sells an e-course about profitable blogging can write content about how to set up a blog.

Determine how often you will be publishing content. If you are comfortable with publishing 3 times a week, go ahead. Just make sure that you will stick with it.
Set the publishing dates. Use a calendar such as Google Calendar to make sure that you stick with your blogging schedule. At this point, you don’t have to write the exact topics yet. Just mark the dates on your calendar. For example, write “Publish:” every Wednesday and Friday.
Plan the format of your content. Beside each date, write the possible format of the content you want to publish. Some formats to consider include: blog posts, checklists, photo collage, tutorial, case studies, interview, white papers, slideshows, infographics, audio tips, or videos. Pick the format and schedule that you feel most comfortable with.

Write down the broad topic beside the format. Now that you have set the publishing date, and the format of each piece of content, go back to your list of broad topics that you have created in #2. This time, select a broad topic and write it next to the format. Here’s an example of how it would look like on your calendar:
You will notice that you’ll have enough topics for your content for the whole year. Take note that during this planning process, you’re not writing down the exact title of your article, video, infographic (or whatever format you want to publish) yet. This process will give you a big picture of your content creation for the entire year. You will never have to worry again about what to write about or talk about in your next video.
